The Key to Surviving Unemployment

By Chadwick Thurston Iii of Survive Unemployment

I hear this all the time: How the heck am I going to pay all my bills now that I don't have a job?

The answer is very simple: You're not. You are going to have to eliminate some of your bills and pare it right down to the bone. Then you're going to have to hustle and strive for every dollar you can put in your pocket.

The key to surviving unemployment (well, the financial aspects of it anyway) is to totally refurbish your budget and income stream. You can do this in a thousand different ways, but the most critical activity is to examine every single expense. You have to go over your life with a fine-tooth comb and find the hidden gold.

For example, do you eat fast food because it is "cheap" and "easy?" I've got news for you: It is neither, and it also costs you dearly in terms of your health. If you re-arrange your food buying and preparation habits, you can buy basic ingredients and cook huge pots of healthy food that can then be put in plastic containers and eaten anywhere, any time. I can get ten very healthy meals for ten bucks this way. Can a fast food joint do that with its cheapest value menu?

That's just one example, though, of a small thing that people often overlook.

The other side of the equation is to find ways to make money. There are dozens of these, and if you visit the link provided in this article, you will get more details. Again, it is all about finding the little things that you may have overlooked.

For example, if you play the guitar, you may have always considered it a hobby. With just a little effort, however, you can make money at it, even if you're not all that great. Form a band to play at weddings. Do solo acoustic gigs at coffee houses. Heck, you can make decent money playing on the street if you're any good.

So look at those two sides of the equation and dive right down into the nitty gritty. You will survive unemployment.
